The film follows the life of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, a renowned researcher, scientist, and filmmaker, from 1949 to 1979. Cousteau's greatest achievement is making the public more curious about the sea. Despite his flaws, including infidelity and vainglory, he is a charismatic leader and genius. The movie ends with Cousteau struggling to cope with the loss of his son Philippe, who died in a plane crash, but is supported by his eldest son Jean-Michel as he continues his mission.
