In 1888, the Bower Family Band seeks to perform at the Democratic National Convention, but instead moves to the Dakota territory to support a suitor for their eldest daughter. However, their pro-Grover Cleveland views clash with the predominantly Republican locals, who want the territory to be admitted as two states to send four Republican senators to Washington.
