Two men, Crawford and Georg, occupy a blacked-out Polish flat in 1942, on the eve of the Nazi invasion. They engage in philosophical discussions, revealing their cynical and brooding nature. The arrival of Professor Mirek's family, including his young daughter Anna, changes the dynamics. Crawford becomes smitten with Anna, but she initially rejects his advances. As death looms, Anna agrees to reciprocate his feelings. However, when Crawford reveals his true intentions, their love is put to the test. Georg's unresolved conflict with Crawford adds complexity to their relationship. The Germans' eventual arrival brings a harsh reality, exposing all to the truth.
