In 1960, filmmaker Chris Marker visited Israel to make his fourth film, capturing the contrasting "signs" of the past and present, including the conquered desert, the Exodus, Orthodox Jews, the Wailing Wall, kibbutzim, Sabbath celebrations, and the carefree childhood of Israel's children, who were already regimented but sustained by hope.
Third Side of the Coin
The film explores the early years of Israel, a young nation navigating its place in the complex Middle Eastern landscape and the global dynamics of the Cold War.
