In 1941, after the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, a Red Cross volunteer named Natasha is sent to a field hospital in an abandoned mansion, where she meets John Hill, an American test pilot who was in Russia on a goodwill tour.

In the midst of World War II, a Red Cross volunteer named Natasha is sent to a field hospital in an old mansion, where she meets wounded American test pilot John Hill, who has been brought in after a battle. As Hill recovers, he and Natasha fall in love. Their romance is put to the test when the hospital staff must evacuate to Leningrad to escape the advancing German forces.
