The asuras, led by three young princes of Tripura, flee their kingdoms after the death of their king Taraka at the hands of the devas. The great asura architect Maya builds three airborne cities, each to be ruled over by one of Taraka's sons, and they are granted indestructibility by Brahma, but only Lord Shiva can destroy them.
