Two American soldiers, Sgt. Peter O'Gaffney and W. Daingerfield Phelps III, form an unlikely friendship while imprisoned in a German POW camp during WWI. Despite their initial animosity, they bond over their shared desire to escape. They successfully flee the camp, but their adventures on the outside lead them to become stowaways on a ship bound for Arabia, where they meet a beautiful Arab woman named Mirza. After saving her from drowning, they are smitten, but learn she is engaged to a ruthless man. The soldiers decide to help her escape, putting themselves in danger as they navigate the treacherous landscape to reach the American consulate.
