Clay Conning, a cowhand, saves a theatrical troupe in Red Rock by using Blondie, the troupe's lead singer/dancer, to blackmail hotel owner Abner Jenkins. Clay pays the troupe's bill, but Abner's wife Martha objects to the performances. As Clay falls for the troupe's leading lady Mary, he begins to woo Martha, pretending to be more refined than he really is. Meanwhile, Frank Blake, a cattle thief Clay previously caught, holds up the box office during a show.
