Aspiring songwriter Homer "Spec" Higgins from Arkansas travels to New York to make it big, selling his song "Sitting on the Edge of My Chair" to radio star Don Gray. However, Gray claims he wrote the song, and Spec's work is then stolen by ex-racketeer Draper, who blackmails Gray into sharing the profits.
