In 1953, Harry and Bess Truman watched the stage play "Wonderful Town" at the Winter Garden Theater on Broadway, which was written by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov, with music by Leonard Berstein and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The musical tells the story of two sisters from Ohio who move to New York City in 1935 to pursue fame and fortune, and it won six Tony Awards.
