A fur-trapper, once a hero to a Sioux chief, is granted access to Sioux territory in the late 1870s. He takes on a novice assistant and together they harbor a runaway Arapaho woman. However, their peaceful arrangement is disrupted when the woman's affection for the assistant sparks tension, and the Sioux chief arrives with his warriors to reclaim her.
