Aditya Assarat, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, was born in 1972. At the tender age of 15, he bid farewell to his homeland to pursue his educational aspirations in the United States. His academic journey took him to New York University, where he delved into the realm of History. Following his undergraduate studies, he went on to earn a master's degree in film production from the prestigious Southern California School of Cinematic Arts in the year 2000.
His graduate thesis film, the 15-minute short "Motorcycle", garnered significant attention and accolades on the international film festival circuit. The film was showcased at the esteemed Chicago International Film Festival, where it took home the coveted Gold Hugo award. Its impressive run continued at the San Francisco International Film Festival, where it won a Golden Gate Award. Additionally, "Motorcycle" won the R. D. Pestonji Award at the 2000 Thai Short Film and Video Festival and the Vision of Life Award at the 2000 Bangkok Film Festival.
Furthermore, the short film received top honors at the Aspen Shortsfest and the Shorts International Film Festival in New York City, being named the best short film at both events.
