Adolfo "Shabba-Doo" Quinones, a renowned figure in the world of hip-hop dancing, was born and raised in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois. In the early 1970s, he made the bold decision to relocate to the west coast, specifically Los Angeles, where he would go on to make a lasting impact on the dance scene.
As one of the original members of the iconic dance group, "The Original Lockers," Shabba-Doo played a pivotal role in the development of "Locking," a style of dance that would come to define the hip-hop movement. His work with the Lockers, along with his membership in the esteemed Soul Train Gang, solidified his status as a true pioneer in the field.
Shabba-Doo's impressive resume includes starring roles in several classic dance films, including "Breakin'" and "Breakin' 2 Electric Boogaloo," as well as the 1990 film "Lambada." His talents extend beyond the screen, however, as he has also established himself as an award-winning musical theater choreographer and director.
Throughout his illustrious career, Shabba-Doo has had the privilege of working with a diverse range of artists, including Lionel Richie, Madonna, Luther Vandross, and Jamie Kennedy. His choreography credits include the MTV show "Blowin' Up," as well as the 78th Annual Academy Awards, where he served as the associate choreographer and lead dancer for the performances by "Three Six Mafia" and Taraji P. Henson.
As Shabba-Doo continues to push the boundaries of his craft, he has several exciting projects in development, including a theatrical feature dance film, a reality-dance competition television series, and the reality series "Planet Dance," which explores the world of global dance. His recent work includes choreography for the film "Kickin' It Old Skool," as well as two instructional dance films and two accompanying music videos for On Q Media Group.
In addition to his numerous creative pursuits, Shabba-Doo is also committed to preserving the history and legacy of hip-hop. He currently serves as a member of the Artifacts, Exhibits and Preservation Committee for the Hip Hop Hall of Fame, which is set to open in the Bronx in 2020. Furthermore, he is in the process of writing his autobiography, "The King of Crenshaw: Rise of Shabba-Doo the Dance Forefather of Hip Hop," which promises to be a fascinating look at the history of hip-hop through the lens of his own remarkable career.
