Aidan Moore Whytock was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Ron and Bonnie Whytock, with his father being a commercial pilot. Growing up in Singapore, he was later sent to boarding school in England, where he discovered his passion for theatre.
After completing his education, Aidan pursued a degree in Social Anthropology, Environmental Science, and a post-graduate degree in Enterprise Management at the University of Cape Town. He was the Vice-Chair of the UCT RAG organization, which raised funds for charity by managing student parties and fundraisers.
Following his university days, Aidan worked as a beer salesman, management consultant, event manager, and entrepreneur before returning to his stage roots. He won South Africa's Fleur Du Cap People's Choice Award for his second professional stage outing, which led him to pursue a career in film.
Aidan landed a small role in Safehouse (2012) and went on to appear in a series of lead roles in indie short films. He was later cast opposite Claire Danes in Homeland Season 4 (2014) and as one of the series regulars Jacob Garrett in Michael Bay's pirate drama Black Sails (2014-16).
Turning his attention to directing and producing, Aidan started with short films. His third short film, The Choice (2015),won the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Award at the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh International Fashion Film Festival (2015). His debut feature film as a director and lead actor, The Actor (2014),was made on a budget of USD3,500 and secured a theatrical release.
In 2016, Aidan had a busy year, winning awards for Best Director and Best Producer, and being cast in feature films such as Dagba (2017),24 Hours to Live (2017),and the grind-house series Blood Drive (2017). He also appeared in the film No Man Left Behind (2016).
