Akilah "AK" Walker is a multifaceted artist who embodies the performative, magical, and absurd through her work as an actress, director, writer, and creative producer. With a focus on representing women and people of the Black diaspora, she has made a significant impact in the entertainment industry.
Akilah's recent accomplishments include joining the cast of Bel-Air season 3, where she plays the recurring character of Yolanda Porter, a savvy young politician. She has also gained recognition for her directorial debut, "Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones," which won several awards, including Best US Short Film and Best Cinematography.
"Ivar Tunnel: Shook Ones" is a darkly comedic social thriller that explores themes of isolation, homelessness, and black womanhood. The film has been selected to screen at numerous film festivals worldwide, including The Hip Hop Film Festival and The Micheaux Film Festival.
Akilah was selected as a Directing Fellow by NALIP Latino Lens Women of Color Narrative Short Film Incubator for her latest directing effort, the short film "Pedacito de Carne." The film received a 25k production grant from Netflix and was privately screened at the Diverse Women in Media Forum.
Akilah co-founded and produces her films through Good Mother Films, a production company that specializes in creating innovative and community-conscious projects for film, television, web, theater, and beyond.
As an actress, Akilah has appeared in several productions, including the lead role of PECOLA in "THE BLUEST EYE" at A Noise Within Theatre Co. She was nominated for Best Performer in A Play by The Broadway World LA Awards. Her other notable performances include "Sorry To Bother You" and "CAP."
Akilah was cast to perform in the highly selective ABC Discovers Talent Showcase 2020. Her other theatre credits include "Black Cypress Bayou," "Marty & The Hands Could," "School Girls; or The African Mean Girls Play," "Christmas Carol," and "Midsummer Night's Dream."
Akilah received a nomination by the Area Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for "Detroit '67" at the Aurora Theatre Company. She holds an MFA in acting from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and a BA in Theater Performance from Fordham University in New York City.
Originally from Atlanta, Akilah now calls Los Angeles home. Her passion for storytelling and her commitment to representing underrepresented voices have made her a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry.
