New York City-born professional wrestler, 911, made a lasting impact on the world of ECW from 1994 to 1996. Prior to his ECW stint, he trained at Larry Sharpe's Monster Factory and competed in various independent circuits. Initially, he served as the anonymous handler who wheeled Sabu to the ring, but soon gained recognition as the bodyguard of Paul E. Dangerously, ruthlessly beating up anyone who dared to threaten his boss.
As his character evolved, 911 became known for his signature move, the Chokeslam, which was often the sole move used in his matches. He would Chokeslam his opponents and secure the pin, showcasing his brute strength. His tenure in ECW came to an abrupt end in early 1996 when Taz, a recently turned heel, choked him out, marking the first time someone managed to escape the Chokeslam.
Following his departure from ECW, 911 joined WCW, where he was rebranded as Tombstone and functioned as a jobber, consistently losing to other wrestlers. He eventually transitioned to the independent circuit, making a surprise return to ECW in 1998 as a heel, only to be swiftly defeated by Spike Dudley.
Throughout his career, 911 garnered numerous accolades, including two JAPW Heavyweight Championships, two NWA Jersey Heavyweight Championships, and one NWA Jersey World Light Heavyweight Championship. In 1994, he was named Rookie of the Year by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
The moniker Tombstone was a nod to Paul E. Dangerously's previous management of a wrestler named Tombstone in Championship Wrestling from Florida. 911's popularity in ECW was undeniable, often serving as a crowd-pleaser by Chokeslamming troublemakers and reinvigorating the audience.
In his autobiography, "Have A Nice Day," Mick Foley mentioned 911 as the "Big Al" he sought out as a tag team partner to take on The Public Enemy after Terry Funk failed to appear for their scheduled match. This event, which took place on August 27, 1994, was marked by the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament, which ultimately led to Shane Douglas proclaiming himself the ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
