Person Biography:
Alan Mehrez, a renowned producer and director, was born into the film industry. As a child, he acted alongside renowned talents such as Doris Day, Nancy Sinatra, Rod Taylor, and Harvey Korman. His godfather, writer-director Charles Lederer, who spent his last five years in the Mehrez family home, greatly influenced and guided the young filmmaker.
From the age of 15, Mehrez worked in his family's business, Cine-Cam Total Picture Services, one of the largest camera and equipment rental companies. He worked as a second assistant director, second assistant cameraman, and production assistant while still a student at Beverly Hills High School.
In 1974, at the age of 16, Mehrez enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),where he continued to work on film projects. He graduated from UCLA in 1977 with honors and then attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1981 with a Juris Doctorate. Mehrez worked at E.F. Hutton & Company, becoming one of the youngest vice-presidents, before returning to the film industry in 1992.
Since then, Mehrez has produced, directed, and/or distributed over 20 film projects. He has also attended numerous international film markets as head of foreign sales for an independent company based in Los Angeles. Mehrez is associated with the successful Bloodsport series of films, which launched the career of actor Jean-Claude Van Damme. He has produced and directed several films in the series, including Bloodsport II, Bloodsport III, and Bloodsport IV.
In addition to the Bloodsport films, Mehrez has produced other commercially successful films, such as Savate, Cyborg 3, and True Vengeance. He has also given early credits to writers, including Kurt Johnstad, who went on to pen the screenplay for the movie 300, one of the top 100 highest-grossing films of all time.
