Alejandro Amenábar is the son of a Spanish mother and a Chilean father, whose family relocated to Spain when he was just one year old. He spent his formative years and received his education in the vibrant city of Madrid.
Amenábar's passion for filmmaking was evident from a young age, as he began writing, producing, and directing his first short film, "La cabeza", when he was just 19 years old. His feature film debut, "Thesis", was released in 1996 when he was 23 years old.
The success of his film "Open Your Eyes" in Spain was immense, and it was subsequently distributed worldwide. Both the original and remade versions of the film feature the stunning Penelope Cruz.
Amenábar's first English-language film, "The Others", was released in 2001 and showcased his versatility as a filmmaker.
