Alex Horwitz is a multifaceted filmmaker with a diverse range of experience in directing, writing, editing, and producing films of varying scales. He has had the privilege of working on numerous projects, including documentaries, music videos, concert specials, short films, and feature films.
One of his most notable achievements is directing and producing the Peabody Finalist documentary "Hamilton's America", which delves into the creation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking musical "Hamilton" and its exploration of America's founding.
Alex's recent documentary "Autonomy" is a comprehensive exploration of self-driving cars, co-created with renowned author Malcolm Gladwell. His other directing credits include a music video and concert special for the iconic rock band Bon Jovi, a short film featuring the avant-garde performance group Blue Man Group, and the horror film "Alice Jacobs is Dead", which won the Best Horror Film award at the San Diego Comic-Con.
In addition to his directing work, Alex has also edited and directed second unit on the short film "The Legend of Hallowdega", directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Terry Gilliam. His editing credits include the critically acclaimed documentary series "Iconoclasts", Oprah Winfrey's "Master Class", and the feature documentary "Whitey" by Joe Berlinger.
Before embarking on his filmmaking career, Alex graduated from Wesleyan University and went on to work as an assistant for the renowned director Julie Taymor. He then honed his skills in film production by working on various projects, including the Spider-Man and Bourne franchises, as well as Martin Scorsese's concert film "Shine a Light".
Today, Alex resides in New York City with his wife and two sons, and continues to work on a wide range of film projects, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his craft.
