Alexander John Buzo, a renowned Australian playwright, was born on July 23rd, 1944, in Sydney, Australia. His educational background consisted of attending The Armidale School in Armidale, New South Wales, and The International School in Geneva, Switzerland. He later graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1966.
Buzo's debut play, Norm and Ahmed, published in 1968, garnered significant attention for its exceptional verbal craftsmanship and provocative subject matter. This was followed by a plethora of plays, including Macquarie (1972),Coralie Landsdowne Says No (1974),Martello Towers (1976),Big River (1980),The Marginal Farm (1983),Shellcove Road (1988),and Pacific Union (1985). In 1972, he received the Australian Literature Society's Gold Medal.
In addition to his work in playwriting, Buzo has also authored several books, numerous articles, and reviews. He co-wrote the 1969 film adaptation of Ned Kelly, starring Mick Jagger.
Buzo's personal life includes a marriage to Merelyn Johnson in 1968, with whom he has three daughters: Emma (born 1972),Laura (born 1978),and Genevieve (born 1989).
