Alexandra Avakian, a renowned photojournalist, hails from New York City and embarked on her professional journey in 1983, following her graduation from Sarah Lawrence College and attendance at the International Center of Photography.
Throughout her illustrious career, Avakian has tackled numerous pressing issues, her photographs published in prominent outlets such as National Geographic, Time, LIFE, The New York Times, and The New York Times LENS Blog, as well as numerous other publications across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Her work has been exhibited extensively, featuring prominently in esteemed institutions like the Annenberg Space for Photography, The Corcoran Museum, The Goethe House, The Brooklyn Museum, NYU Tisch School for the Arts, and the Pingyao Photo Festival, among others, with three notable appearances at Visa Pour L'Image in Perpignan, France.
Avakian's photographs have also been featured in several books published by National Geographic, including her own photo and text memoir, Windows of the Soul, as well as titles released by Time Life Books, Clarkson Potter Books, and other esteemed publishing houses.
