Biography

Alice Arnold, born in 1962, is a British broadcaster and journalist who has made a lasting impact in the media industry. With a career spanning over two decades, she has worked tirelessly for BBC Radio 4, serving as a newsreader and continuity announcer until December 2012.

Arnold's educational background is impressive, having attended the independent Claremont Fan Court School in Esher, Surrey, where she was classmates with Michaela Strachan. She then went on to pursue a degree in politics from the University of Sussex, followed by training as an actress at the Drama Studio in Ealing.

In addition to her academic achievements, Arnold has had a successful career in the entertainment industry. She has worked as a news presenter on Radio 4, featuring in the BBC Two comedy Broken News in 2005. Her impressive presentation skills earned her a promotion to read the news on Radio 4's Today programme in June 2006.

Arnold's contributions to Radio 4 did not go unnoticed, as she co-presented comedian Jon Holmes's show Listen Against from 2007 to 2011. Her dedication and hard work were recognized when she was credited as "Eva Arnold" during her early appearances as a newsreader, a move intended to keep her newsreading persona separate from her identity as an actor.

In 2012, Arnold gained media attention for her heroic act of throwing an empty plastic bottle back into a vehicle that had thrown it out of a window. Her colleague and friend Corrie Corfield even joked that she deserved a damehood for her actions.

After leaving Radio 4 in 2012, Arnold continued to work for the BBC in a training capacity, coaching potential female interviewees for the Today programme. She has since written and narrated for The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian, solidifying her position as a respected journalist and broadcaster.

Throughout her career, Arnold has shared valuable insights on how to effectively communicate, suggesting that adopting a smile or frown while talking can greatly enhance one's presentation skills. Her dedication to her craft and her commitment to making a positive impact have made her a beloved figure in the media industry.
