Alisa Kovalenko is a renowned Ukrainian documentary filmmaker, currently residing in Kyiv. Her impressive portfolio boasts two feature-length documentaries, "Alisa in Warland" and "Home Games", which have collectively screened at over 100 film festivals and garnered numerous accolades.
Her third film, "We Will Not Fade Away", a captivating teenage adventure documentary set amidst the backdrop of war-torn Donbas, premiered at the prestigious Berlinale in 2023. This remarkable film went on to win a staggering 20 international awards, earned the title of Best Ukrainian Documentary by the Ukrainian Film Academy in 2023, and was selected for the European Film Awards 2023.
In addition to her feature-length work, Alisa co-directed a short documentary, "Girl Away from Home", specifically tailored for a youth audience, which premiered at IDFA in 2023.
Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Alisa joined a volunteer combat unit affiliated with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and fought on the frontline for several months before returning to her craft. This life-altering experience has inspired her latest personal documentary, "My Dear Théo", which is set to premiere at CPH:DOX in 2025.
Throughout her career, Alisa has been recognized with the prestigious Chicken & Egg Award 2024. Her films have been showcased by prominent broadcasters and platforms, including Netflix and Arte.
