Drury, a former journalist, had a distinguished career with The New York Times's Washington bureau, where he honed his skills as a reporter. However, his most notable achievement was the publication of his novel, Advise & Consent, which catapulted him to fame and success. The novel's popularity was such that it became a bestseller, earning Drury a 1960 Pulitzer Prize in the process. The book's impact extended beyond the literary world, as it was adapted into a Broadway play and later a feature film, Advise & Consent, directed by Otto Preminger in 1962.
