Allison Tolman was born in Sugar Land, Texas, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatrical performance from Baylor University. Following her graduation, she relocated to Dallas, where she played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing the independent ensemble-based non-profit organization, Second Thought Theatre. This endeavor allowed her to explore her creative talents while also grappling with the challenges of transitioning into adulthood.
In 2009, Tolman was accepted into Second City's Conservatory Training Program, which marked the beginning of her journey as a writer and performer of sketch and satire. She went on to collaborate with various groups throughout Chicago, including the popular monthly comedy podcast, The City Life Supplement.
Throughout her career, Tolman has taken on a diverse range of roles, including veterinary receptionist, personal assistant, children's theatre teacher, vocal coach, phone sales associate, client services representative, and dog walker. While these positions may not have been on the big screen, they provided her with a means of paying her rent and indulging in her love of acquiring tank tops from Target.
As of 2014, Tolman resides in Chicago with her feline companion, Annie, a portly cat who has a peculiar fascination with staring blankly whenever a house centipede is present in the kitchen.
