New York filmmaker Ally Acker is the renowned author of "Reel Women: Pioneers of the Cinema", a pioneering work that chronicles the remarkable contributions of women who revolutionized the film industry since its inception. This groundbreaking herstory was later expanded and updated to become the comprehensive two-volume edition: "Reel Women: The First Hundred Years". Building upon her research, Acker went on to direct a series of ten documentaries, "Filmmakers on Film", which feature in-depth interviews with some of Hollywood's most influential filmmakers.
In addition to her work in documentary filmmaking, Acker has also directed "The Flowering of the Crone: Leonora Carrington, Another Reality", a poignant portrait of the surrealist painter and writer Leonora Carrington, which received the artist's official endorsement during her lifetime and was produced in the United States.
Prior to her career as a filmmaker, Acker worked as a writer and field producer for NBC's Today Show. She is also a published poet, with three books of poetry to her credit. Acker holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in film from Columbia University.
