As he navigated the pivotal stages of his early life, Amjad's innate passion for directing began to take shape, ultimately leading him to the prestigious UAE University, where he honed his skills and laid the groundwork for a remarkable career in the film industry.
Abu Alala embarked on his professional odyssey by assuming the roles of director and producer for a diverse array of media organizations, simultaneously serving both Arab and Western broadcasting networks. Throughout this phase of his career, he successfully helmed a multitude of short films, including the widely acclaimed STUDIO (2012),which was penned and directed under the mentorship of the illustrious Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.
In the year 2013, a notable and remarkable event took place, as Abu Alala was bestowed the esteemed Best Arabic Theater Script award by the Arab Authority for Theater, in recognition of his outstanding work on the script for the production of APPLE PIES.
Just a year following this achievement, Abu Alala's professional trajectory continued to ascend, as he was entrusted with the significant responsibility of Head of Programming for the Sudan Independent Film Festival, thereby further entrenching his presence and influence within the realm of the film industry.
Abu Alala's debut feature film as writer-director and producer, YOU WILL DIE AT TWENTY, achieved widespread acclaim and marked a groundbreaking milestone in Sudanese cinema, forever altering the trajectory of the country's film industry. The film's extraordinary success was solidified when it received the prestigious Lion of the Future Award at the esteemed Venice International Film Festival, a recognition that served as a precursor to a remarkable 25 additional awards garnered worldwide. Moreover, YOU WILL DIE AT TWENTY made history as Sudan's first-ever submission for the Best International Feature Film Academy Award, thereby cementing its place in the annals of Sudanese cinematic history and leaving an indelible mark on the global film community.
Abu Alala's entrepreneurial endeavors culminated in the establishment of his production company, Station Films, which has since spearheaded a plethora of feature-length and short-form productions. Notably, his recent body of work comprises a diverse array of films, including THE BURDENED, CAPTAINS OF ZAATARI, and GOODBYE JULIA, the latter of which made its world premiere at the prestigious 2023 Cannes Film Festival and went on to claim the coveted Freedom Award in Un Certain Regard.
