Amy O'Neill, an American performer, was born on July 8, 1971, in Pacific Palisades, California. She is the daughter of an art school director and a construction company owner, and the third of five children. As a young girl, O'Neill was accompanied by her older siblings and began auditioning for roles at the age of ten. Her first appearance on television was at the age of 13, when she played the younger version of Betty White's character in an episode of Mama's Family in 1983.
As a teenager, O'Neill continued to land guest spots on various television shows, including Matt Houston in 1982, Night Court in 1984, Highway to Heaven in 1984, The Twilight Zone in 1985, and Family Ties in 1982. Her consistent success on television led to a regular role on the 1986 season of the long-running soap opera The Young and the Restless, which premiered in 1973.
In 1989, O'Neill made her feature film debut in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, playing the role of Amy, who is shrunk by her scientist father, Rick Moranis. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Young Artist Award, but she lost to Gaby Hoffmann for Field of Dreams. O'Neill reprised her role in the sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid, which was released in 1992.
Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, O'Neill continued to guest-star on popular television series, including Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987, The Young Riders in 1989, and Murder, She Wrote in 1984. She also appeared in the biographical miniseries I Know My First Name Is Steven in 1989, and had roles in the made-for-TV flicks White Wolves: A Cry in the Wild II in 1993 and Attack of the 5 Ft. 2 Women in 1994. Additionally, she appeared in the rejected comedy pilot...Where's Rodney? in 1990.
