Amy's feature directorial debut, Benavides Born, which she co-wrote with her husband Daniel Meisel, made its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, marking a significant milestone in her career.
The film received widespread acclaim, earning Amy the prestigious L'Oreal Paris Women of Vision Award at Sundance and the Adrienne Shelly Excellence in Filmmaking Award at the Nantucket Film Festival.
Maya Entertainment subsequently released the film theatrically and on various platforms under the new title All She Can in 2011, and it made its broadcast premiere with HBO in 2012. The film also launched digitally via Sundance's Artist Services Program in 2013.
Amy's academic background is equally impressive. She is a 2004 alumna of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film Program, where she honed her craft and produced a series of critically acclaimed short films.
Each of her film school shorts, including Weightless (2001),Covered Girls (2002),and Bodies (2004),earned festival awards and were subsequently broadcast nationally on either IFC or Showtime.
Prior to her successful career in film, Amy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, where she developed a passion for education. She then went on to teach 7th grade English and History for Teach for America, further solidifying her commitment to the field.
Amy's academic pursuits continued with a Master's degree in Education from Stanford University, where she refined her teaching skills and expanded her knowledge of educational theory.
In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Amy is also an accomplished adventurer. She has climbed 8,000-meter peaks, including an attempt on Mt. Everest, demonstrating her unwavering determination and resilience in the face of challenge.
