Anaïs Mitchell, born March 26, 1981, is a multifaceted American artist, encompassing the roles of singer-songwriter, musician, and playwright. Throughout her illustrious career, she has released eight studio albums, including the critically acclaimed Hadestown (2010),Young Man in America (2012),Child Ballads (2013),and Anaïs Mitchell (2022).
Notably, Mitchell transformed her album Hadestown into a stage musical, in collaboration with director Rachel Chavkin, which premiered in the United States at New York Theatre Workshop during the summer of 2016, and later debuted in Canada at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. The production then opened at London's National Theatre in November 2018, followed by its Broadway debut at the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 17, 2019.
The Broadway production of Hadestown received widespread acclaim, earning a total of eight Tony Awards in 2019, including the prestigious Tony Award for Best Musical.
