Andre John Otane King was born on November 6, 1972, in Tokoroa, New Zealand, to Rupert and Barbara King. His father, a prominent figure in the Country and Western scene, encouraged him to sing from a young age, and Andre began performing country songs at just five years old, showcasing his impressive yodeling skills.
As he grew older, Andre continued to hone his singing talents, performing as a soloist in his school choir and at festivals with the Hamilton Operatic Society. After completing his education, he explored various careers, including a stint as a prize fighter, serving in the New Zealand Army (RNZ Infantry),and working in investigations and security.
In 2000, following his medical discharge from the military and disillusionment with his previous careers, Andre turned his attention to the arts. He initially performed as a magician for his children but soon branched out into stand-up comedy to improve his stage presence. His rapid success as a comedian led to television appearances, including a small role on TV 3's "Eating Media Lunch."
Andre's stand-up career took him on extensive tours throughout the UK, Europe, and South East Asia, headlining theaters worldwide. Eventually, he returned to New Zealand and established himself as a popular entertainer on cruise ships, known for his fast-paced, zipping lines, and clean comedy style.
In 2019, Andre was confirmed as the fourth member of the revised version of The Howard Morrison Quartet but was forced to withdraw due to injury, missing the scheduled 19-date tour. Today, Andre operates out of his Nelson, New Zealand-based studio, providing voice talent, performing stand-up comedy for corporate events, acting, and offering tutelage on the art and craft of stand-up comedy.
Andre is a member of several esteemed organizations, including the NZ Comedy Guild, the NZ Writers Guild, Nga Aho Whakaari, and Actors Equity.
