Andrea Demetriades is an Australian actress, born in 1987, who has made a name for herself in television, theatre, and film. Her journey in the entertainment industry began with her birth in Perth, where she was the youngest of four sisters.
Her parents, Costas and Athena, played a significant role in shaping her life. Costas, who emigrated from Cyprus in 1969, met Athena, who was born in Perth but had Greek roots. Athena is an artist, and Costas worked as a Greek language teacher, translator, and helped people with legal matters and translation services in hospitals and welfare departments.
Andrea Demetriades pursued her passion for dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and studied Communications and Cultural Studies at Curtin University. She later graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) with a Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Acting) degree in 2006.
Demetriades is widely recognized for her role as Lina Badir in the television series Crownies, which she reprised in the spin-off series Janet King in 2014 and 2016. Her television guest roles include All Saints, Mr & Mrs Murder, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed series The Principal and starred in Seven Types of Ambiguity, Pulse, and Squinters.
Demetriades has featured in several films, including Nerve and Around The Block. Her theatre credits include Bell Shakespeare's Pericles, for which she was nominated for a 2009 Green Room Award, and she toured Australia in Bell Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in 2010. She also starred as Eliza Doolittle in Sydney Theatre Company's 2012 production of Pygmalion.
In 2015, Demetriades was one of the main protagonists in the film Alex & Eve, a romantic drama about dating between a Greek and a Muslim Lebanese.
