As a pioneer in the field of Metalwork Installations, Levitas has revolutionized the connection between photography, sculpture, and contemporary art, earning him widespread recognition.
His "Organic Abstractions" series, comprising paintings built from homemade pigments and organic materials, including entire trees in some cases, has garnered critical acclaim.
In 2008, Levitas was honored as one of a select few American artists to be accepted by the prestigious Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, a testament to his exceptional talent.
Recent exhibition highlights include the first-ever single-artist exhibition at PHILLIP'S Berkeley Square, titled METALWORK PHOTOGRAPHY: A SURVEY/WORKS BY ANDREW LEVITAS, as well as Metalwork Photography: Sculptures at Phillips de Pury & Co. in Manhattan.
Levitas' work has been acquired by notable institutions, including The National Museum Wales and 10 Downing Street.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Levitas has ventured into filmmaking, making his directorial debut with Lullaby, a feature film starring Amy Adams, Richard Jenkins, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, and Garrett Hedlund. The film, an exploration of patients' rights, received praise from Pete Hammond of Deadline, who described it as a "strong human drama" with "Jenkins a true actor's actor, delivering a very Oscar-worthy supporting turn."
Levitas' latest directing project, Minamata, stars Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, and Hiroyuki Sanada, and follows the story of photojournalist W. Eugene Smith (Depp) as he exposes corporate negligence and government cover-ups in the Japanese coastal town of Minamata.
As a producer, Levitas has worked on a wide range of films, including The White Crow, My Zoe, Georgetown, Farming, The Gateway, and The Quarry, among others.
Levitas maintains studios in New York and London and serves as the Global Patron of The Wilderness Foundation.
