Andrew Sullivan's first feature film, Bokeh, is a thought-provoking sci-fi movie set in Iceland, which he co-wrote and co-directed alongside Geoffrey Orthwein.
The film, which stars Maika Monroe and Matt O'Leary, was selected for IFP's Independent Filmmaker Labs and premiered at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Bokeh was acquired by Screen Media Films and later released theatrically in March 2017, with Netflix obtaining the exclusive, worldwide rights.
The film received widespread critical acclaim, with The Village Voice describing it as "Witty and Beautiful". The Los Angeles Times praised the film's "stripped-down" approach, saying it was an "existential mystery" that explores the concept of the apocalypse without relying on excessive sci-fi explanations.
The Verge noted that the film was a "gorgeous indie science fiction film" that explores the quietest apocalypse, while the Chicago Tribune described it as a philosophical exploration of the meaning of life.
Film School Rejects praised the film's beauty, saying it was "devastatingly beautiful and beautifully devastating", while The New York Observer commended the writing and co-direction, saying it was "careful and revelatory".
Rogerebert.com described the film as "intimate, expansive storytelling", highlighting its unique blend of small-scale, personal moments and grand, existential themes.
Andrew's next feature film, I Don't Want To Drink Your Blood Anymore, is currently in production and is set to be released in March 2022.
