Andrew van den Houten, a renowned producer hailing from the Upper West Side of New York, has garnered widespread recognition for his exceptional work in the film industry. His productions have received critical acclaim from esteemed individuals such as Stephen King and Roger Ebert, and he has been honored at numerous prestigious film festivals worldwide, including the Sundance Film Festival, The Independent Spirit Awards, SXSW, Fantastic Fest, Deauville American Film Festival, Sitges, and FrightFest.
With over eighty feature films under his belt, Andrew has been involved in various aspects of film production, including development, financing, production, and distribution. Some of his notable projects include the Independent Spirit Award-nominated "In the Family," the cult classic "The Girl Next Door," and the Sundance shocker "The Woman." Additionally, he has directed two films, "Headspace" and "Offspring," through his production company Modernciné.
Through Hood River Entertainment, Andrew has produced a diverse range of films, including action, horror, and thrillers, such as the Shudder Original "The Ranger," the critically acclaimed "The Block Island Sound" on Netflix, and "A Day To Die" starring Bruce Willis on Hulu. He has also co-founded BLacklight, a production company committed to providing opportunities for people of color and other traditionally disadvantaged individuals in front of and behind the camera, with the goal of telling commercially successful stories that inspire global audiences.
BLacklight's first production, "Call Her King," starring Naturi Naughton and Lance Gross, was released on BET+, followed by "Black Heat," starring Jason Mitchell, NLE Choppa, and DreamDoll, which is currently in post-production.
In addition to his film production work, Andrew also provides corporate consulting services through 79th & Broadway Entertainment and is a partner in the film distributor Kamikaze Dogfight.
