Angelos Antonopoulos was born in 1932, in the vibrant city of Piraeus, Greece, a bustling port that would shape the course of his life. He began his journey in the world of theater by studying at Theatro Technis, a renowned institution under the guidance of the esteemed Carolos Koun. It was here that he honed his craft, preparing for his stage debut in a 1962 Athens production of Aristophanes' timeless masterpiece, "Ornithes". This marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career, during which he would collaborate with numerous prestigious groups, including the Greek National Theater, and even establish his own ensembles.
Throughout his illustrious career, Antonopoulos has had the privilege of playing a wide range of iconic roles. He brought Tolstoy's "Resurrection" to life as the complex and nuanced Nechliudoff, and his portrayal of Karl Zalter in Luigi Pirandello's "As You Desire Me" left a lasting impression. He also delved into the works of Sartre, playing the enigmatic Hederrer in "Les mains sales", and brought the complexities of Ibsen's "John Gabriel Borgman" to the stage, playing the titular role with great aplomb.
In addition to his work on the stage, Antonopoulos has also made a significant impact in the world of film. He made his movie debut in 1964, and over the years, he has appeared in a variety of supporting roles, gradually working his way up to screen stardom in the late 1960s. He shared the screen with the talented Aliki Vougiouklaki and Jenny Karezi, and his popularity soared in the early 1970s, when he starred opposite Gely Mavropoulou in the phenomenally successful TV series "Agnostos polemos" (1971),written by the acclaimed Nikos Foskolos.
