Anh Duong, a multifaceted artist, was born in France to a Spanish mother and a Vietnamese father. She began her career as a top model, studying classical dance before transitioning to the world of art and acting.
In 1988, Duong made the move to New York, where she started her career as an actress. Her breakthrough role was in the film "Mambo Kings," followed by appearances in "I Shot Andy Warhol" and "High Art" by Lisa Cholodenko, which premiered at the Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals.
Duong's acting career was put on hold for a decade as she focused on her art career. She returned to acting in 2014 with a role in "Appropriate Behavior" and later appeared in "Welcome to New York" and "The Only Living Boy in New York," alongside Pierce Brosnan, Cynthia Nixon, Debi Mazar, and Wallace Shawn.
As an artist, Duong's first painting exhibition was held at the Sperone Westwater Gallery in New York in 1991. Her earliest self-portrait was featured in a 1997 show at the PMMK Museum of Modern Art in Ostend, Belgium. In 1999, the Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont in Paris presented her first solo exhibition of self-portraits, showcasing over 65 works.
Duong has since become a recognized painter in New York City, with solo exhibitions at the Sonnabend gallery and London's Robilant&Voena gallery. Her portraits have featured notable subjects such as Bruno Bischofberger, Simon de Pury, Angelica Houston, and Susan Sarandon.
Duong's latest portrait is a nine-foot-tall stainless steel sculpture of Diane von Furstenberg, which serves as the figurehead of Barry Diller's yacht. She has also sculpted the 50 stars that are part of the entrance mural for the new Statue of Liberty museum, which opened in 2018.
Currently, Duong is working on a series of 35 bird sculptures for the entrance wall of the new Hillary Clinton foundation, Vital Voices, in Washington, D.C. The foundation is set to open in May 2022.
A retrospective of 20 of Duong's paintings was exhibited at the Gmurzynska gallery in Zurich during the summer of 2021. She is set to have her first show in Los Angeles at the Spring Place Beverly Hills in April 2022.
The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. has acquired one of Duong's portraits of Diane von Furstenberg for its permanent collection. She has also appeared in campaigns for Kate Spade, H&M, Bergdorf Goodman, Miu Miu, Pomellato, and Thom Browne.
A book of Duong's work, titled "Self-Portraits," has been published by Assouline. She received the Veuve Clicquot Tribute to Inspiring Women Award and is fluent in French, English, and Spanish. Duong currently splits her time between New York and Paris.
