Anjali Bhimani's Biography
Anjali Bhimani was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Orange County, California, by her parents, Drs. Ela and Bharat Bhimani. She developed a passion for performing at a young age, participating in school and community theatre for most of her childhood.
Bhimani's academic pursuits led her to earn a degree in theatre from Northwestern University's esteemed theatre school, with a certificate in musical theatre. After graduating, she went on to perform at several renowned regional theatre companies, including the Goodman, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Her professional journey took a significant turn when she collaborated extensively with director Mary Zimmerman, who is known for her innovative and imaginative productions. Bhimani's work with Zimmerman earned her a Tony nomination for Best Play for Mary's Metamorphoses, which premiered off-Broadway at Second Stage and later moved to Broadway's Circle in the Square.
Bhimani's Broadway credits include Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams, where she took over the role of Rani, a Bollywood diva. Her other notable collaborations include working with Tony Kushner and Maurice Sendak on Comedy on the Bridge/Brundibar, the world premiere of The Existents, and A Widow of No Importance by Shane Shakrani.
In addition to her work in theatre, Bhimani has appeared in various television shows and films, including ABC's Modern Family, Marvel's Runaways, S.W.A.T., Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Grace and Frankie, Miss India America, Silicon Valley, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Fosters, Necessary Roughness, Law and Order: SVU, and The Sopranos.
Since 2016, Bhimani has gained international recognition as the voice of Symmetra, a reality-bending hero, in Blizzard Entertainment's popular video game Overwatch. She has also lent her voice to other gaming characters, including Nisha from Fallout 4: Nuka World and Kala in Indivisible.
In the gaming community, Bhimani is known for her roles as the headstrong Mrs. Miriam Landisman in Undeadwood, produced by Critical Role Studios, and the hardened sniper Stingray in We're Alive: Frontier by Geek and Sundry.
In 2017, Bhimani created the positivity and life-hacking web series I Am Fun Size on YouTube, where she shares her experiences and interviews other well-known performers to help people live fuller, bigger lives.
