Annabel Jankel is a renowned filmmaker, founder of two esteemed production companies, Cucumber Studios in London and MJZ in LA, NY, and London. Her illustrious career spans directing music videos for iconic artists such as Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Elvis Costello, Miles Davis, and George Harrison.
Annabel's groundbreaking work on Max Headroom, a cultural phenomenon, pushed the boundaries of CGI and live action, culminating in the creation of a cultural icon now acquired by the Museum of Modern Art. This innovative project led to her directing two Hollywood feature films in collaboration with co-director Rocky Morton.
Throughout her solo career, Annabel has garnered acclaim for directing award-winning commercials for prominent brands such as Greenpeace, Speedo, Hallmark, Coca Cola, and Bell. Her work on the series Live from Abbey Road and Abbey Road Classics, featuring over 70 world-renowned musicians, including Massive Attack, Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon, The Kills, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Killers, was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK and Sundance Channel in the US.
In 2009, Annabel directed the screen adaptation of David Almond's Whitbread and Carnegie Medal-winning novel Skellig, starring Tim Roth, John Simm, and Kelly Macdonald. Her recent feature film, Tell It To the Bees, based on Fiona Shaw's period love story, features Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger, and premiered as a 'Special Presentation' at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018, subsequently being showcased at festivals worldwide.
As a dual US and UK national, Annabel resides and works between the UK and Los Angeles.
