Anne Phelan, affectionately known as Annie to her dear friends, embarked on a remarkable journey in the world of amateur theatre productions, concurrently honing her skills as a talented singer. As she transitioned to a full-time acting career, Anne would go on to become one of Australia's most beloved character actresses.
Throughout her illustrious career, Anne seamlessly balanced her acting pursuits with an unwavering dedication to numerous AIDS-related charities, including Positive Women and Oz Showbiz Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. In February 2000, Anne took on a key role as a member of the organizing committee for the 21st anniversary reunion party of the highly acclaimed TV series Prisoner, which premiered in 1979.
In this capacity, Anne played the iconic role of Myra Desmond, bringing the character to life in a way that captivated audiences worldwide. The reunion party, held at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, drew in a global fan base, with fans traveling from far and wide to attend the event and raise crucial funds for AIDS charities.
Anne continued to act until 2015, when she secured a recurring role on the popular TV series Winners & Losers, which debuted in 2011. Following this, Anne gradually stepped back from the spotlight, opting for a quieter semi-retirement. She subsequently pursued a new career path as a voice-over artist.
Tragically, Anne passed away on October 27, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by those who knew and admired her. She was 75 years young at the time of her passing.
