Anniwaa Buachie is a multifaceted artist, renowned for her impressive work in the entertainment industry. Her remarkable portrayal of "Eka", a Nigerian mother battling FGM in the STARZ TV series Survivor's Remorse, opposite notable actors Tichina Arnold, Teyonah Parris, and Erica Ash, has garnered her widespread recognition. Additionally, she has made significant contributions to British feature films, such as Aux, alongside Jonathan Rhys Davis, and British TV series Holby City.
Anniwaa's impressive repertoire has earned her numerous accolades, including the Alan Bates Award and the New York International Film Festival Award. Her extensive experience in TV, film, and theatre has allowed her to work with esteemed institutions, including The Public Theater, The Old Vic, Young Vic, and the National Theatre of Ghana.
Born in South West London to working-class Ghanaian immigrants, Anniwaa is the youngest of four siblings. Growing up in a creative and multicultural household in London, she was constantly exposed to various cultures and art forms. As a child, she was scouted by ballet dancer Rhian Robins, who recognized her exceptional dance skills and encouraged her parents to enroll her in the Royal Academy of Dance. For 16 years, ballet and contemporary dance were her primary focus, although she eventually transitioned to acting.
Anniwaa was offered a place at the prestigious East 15 acting school, whose alumni include OBE and Brit Award winner Damon Albarn and OBE, Oliver Award winner Alison Steadman. Shortly after graduating, she was awarded The Alan Bates Outstanding Newcomer award.
Early in her career, Anniwaa founded and served as Artistic Director of Golden Delilah from 2009 to 2015. This innovative theatre company celebrated new writing, promoted strong female roles, and showcased a diverse range of actors, directors, and writers, aiding in their career development.
As an actor who began her journey from humble working-class beginnings, Anniwaa is a dedicated supporter of community outreach work and collaborates with children's theatre-focused companies, such as Shakespeare Youth Festival, where she serves as a board member and head of the Outreach Committee.
