Antonio Campos is an American filmmaker who has made a significant impact in the industry with his unique storytelling style and versatility in directing various genres. His feature-length debut, Afterschool, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was later acquired by IFC Films, releasing in a limited capacity on October 2, 2009. This was followed by Simon Killer, which starred Brady Corbet and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, with IFC Films distributing the film in a limited release in April 2013.
Campos's third feature, Christine, starred Rebecca Hall and also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, with The Orchard acquiring distribution rights and releasing the film in a limited capacity on October 14, 2016. Notably, Campos is attached to direct a prequel to The Omen for 20th Century Fox, showcasing his ability to work on a wide range of projects.
In addition to his work as a director, Campos has also ventured into television, directing the pilot episode of The Sinner, starring Jessica Biel and Christopher Abbott, and serving as an executive producer. He has also directed episode 8 of Marvel's The Punisher. In 2020, Campos wrote and directed the psychological thriller The Devil All the Time, which was released on Netflix in September.
Apart from his work as a director and screenwriter, Campos co-founded the production company Borderline Films, which has produced films such as James White, Katie Says Goodbye, and Martha Marcy May Marlene. In October 2022, it was announced that Campos had been hired as show-runner for the untitled The Batman spin-off series set in Arkham Asylum, in addition to serving as director and an executive producer.
Born in New York City, Campos's family background is diverse, with his father being a Brazilian journalist and his mother an American producer. His maternal grandparents were Italian.
