Biography

Antonio Eceiza, a Spanish film director and screenwriter of great renown, made his entry into the world on September 4, 1935, in the picturesque city of San Sebastián, situated in the beautiful province of Guipúzcoa, Spain. His journey in the realm of filmmaking, which spanned a period of nearly four decades, was marked by the creation of a total of eleven films, with the earliest being released in 1960 and the latest in 1995. Prior to embarking on his illustrious career in the film industry, Eceiza's academic pursuits led him to earn a law degree, which he obtained before subsequently honing his skills as an animator within the vibrant San Sebastián film club scene.

In the year 1958, a pivotal moment in the life of the individual in question, he made the bold decision to relocate to the vibrant city of Madrid, with the primary objective of furthering his education at the esteemed Institute of Cinematographic Research and Experiences.

During his tenure in Madrid, he had the opportunity to form a collaborative partnership with his dear friend and like-minded individual, Elías Querejeta, with whom he co-produced not one, but two documentaries, as well as worked on various advertising films.

This mutually beneficial partnership, which was forged during this period, would ultimately serve as the foundation upon which the individual's future success in the film industry was built.

Eceiza's inaugural cinematic endeavors, specifically "De cuerpo presente", "Último encuentro", and "Las secretas intenciones", played a pivotal role in cementing his status as a luminary within the burgeoning "new Spanish cinema" movement of the 1960s.

Upon his return to the Iberian Peninsula, the renowned filmmaker, Eceiza, embarked on a new creative venture by establishing the esteemed production company, Bertan Filmeak. This groundbreaking enterprise would go on to assume a pivotal role in the development of the Ikuska series, a testament to Eceiza's unwavering dedication to his craft.

In the following years, Eceiza's artistic endeavors continued to flourish, as he took the helm of the 1989 cinematic masterpiece, "Dias de humo / Ke arteko egunak". This critically acclaimed film served as a precursor to his 1995 release, "Felicidades, Tovarich", which further solidified his position as a visionary force in the world of cinema.
