Biography

Archibald Edward Gouldie, professionally known as Archie "The Stomper" Gouldie or The Mongolian Stomper, was a renowned Canadian professional wrestler. He spent decades wrestling for Stampede Wrestling, earning the nickname "The Stomper" due to his reputation for "stomping" on his opponents with his black cowboy boots when they were down.

Gouldie's early career saw him as a babyface in the Central States territory, where he won the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship from Enrique Torres in 1963. He went on to regain the title multiple times, only to lose it to various opponents. He also proved himself as an accomplished tag team wrestler, winning the NWA North American Tag Team Championship eleven times.

Gouldie held the North American heavyweight title a record 14 times between 1968 and 1984, showcasing his longevity in the industry. He feuded with notable opponents, including British mat technician Billy Robinson, for the title. Although he primarily wrestled as a heel, Gouldie made a face turn in 1983 after being betrayed by Bad News Allen and his storyline "son", Jeff.

Gouldie achieved significant fame in the US, particularly in the Knoxville, Tennessee-based NWA Southeast territory, where he held the NWA Southeast Heavyweight Championship a record eleven times. He feuded with Robert Fuller and Ronnie Garvin over the title. Gouldie also briefly appeared in Mid South in 1982 and joined SMW in 1992, teaming with former rival Ronnie Garvin in his feud with Paul Orndorff and feuding with Kevin Sullivan's latest incarnation of evil wrestlers.

Gouldie's post-wrestling life was marked by memory issues, which began in 2011. He suffered a hip fracture in 2016, which required surgery, and sadly passed away in his sleep on January 23, 2016.
