Arild Østin Ommundsen is a renowned Norwegian filmmaker who has made a significant impact on the Norwegian film industry. His debut film, "Mongoland" (2001),was a low-budget production that broke new ground and paved the way for a new direction in Norwegian cinema. This groundbreaking film has since become a beloved classic and is still shown in cinemas every Christmas.
Following his breakthrough, Arild went on to work on larger productions in both Stavanger and Oslo. In 2004, he directed "Monsterthursday", the first Norwegian feature film to be invited to Sundance, starring Kim Bodnia, Iben Hjejle, Vegar Hoel, and Silje Salomonsen. His innovative approach to filmmaking has become synonymous with bold and groundbreaking work.
Arild has continued to push the boundaries of filmmaking, taking on multiple roles in his productions. In 2012, he made the bold decision to abandon a traditional film crew and work independently, resulting in the one-man-band production "Eventyrland" (It's Only Make Believe). In this remarkable film, Arild took on every major role himself, including producing, writing, directing, cinematography, editing, and sound design. Despite working alone, he was nominated in four different categories at the International Film Festival in Haugesund that same year and was invited to the prestigious Camerimage Festival in Poland.
Since 2012, Arild has been focused on finding the perfect balance in each of his projects, striking a delicate balance between creative freedom and financial constraints.
