Born in the ancient Roman port of Cartagena, in the province of Murcia, Spain, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, renowned author and journalist, embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape his illustrious career. With a background in Political Sciences and Journalism, he began his professional path as a reporter for the Madrid newspaper "Pueblo". This marked the beginning of his extensive travels and reporting on global conflicts, including the Sahara in 1975 and Eritrea in 1977.
Pérez-Reverte's experiences as a war correspondent took him to various battle-scarred regions, such as Cyprus, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Chad, Lebanon, Sudan, Mozambique, Angola, the Persian Gulf, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. These tumultuous events would later inspire his writing, particularly his book "Territorio Comanche", which was met with controversy and ultimately led to his departure from RTVE.
Undeterred, Pérez-Reverte dedicated himself to writing, producing approximately 16 novels, numerous articles for magazines, and appearances on radio and TV interview shows. He has received numerous awards for his journalistic work and is a frequent guest at seminars, congresses, and book fairs.
A devoted family man, Pérez-Reverte resides in a village outside Madrid with his wife and daughter Carlota. Interestingly, his daughter played a significant role in the creation of the first part of the "Alatriste" novels, as she conducted extensive research on historical documents related to 17th Century Madrid.
A common thread runs through Pérez-Reverte's novels: a deep-seated passion for historical accuracy and meticulous research. He delves into various topics, from chess-playing to historical first-editions, 16th Century Dutch masters, Informatics, and even swordsmanship. His remarkable imaginative abilities have enabled him to craft well-written adventure stories that captivate readers worldwide.
In his free time, Pérez-Reverte can be found on his beloved yacht, which he considers his "true freedom".
