Biography

Asakazu Nakai, a renowned Japanese cinematographer, entered this world on August 29, 1901, in the culturally rich city of Kobe. He would go on to forge a remarkable career in the film industry, collaborating with the illustrious filmmaker Akira Kurosawa on an impressive dozen projects. Nakai's impressive body of work would eventually garner him a nomination for the prestigious Academy Award for Best Cinematography, specifically for his outstanding contributions to the 1985 film Ran. Prior to this notable recognition, Nakai had already achieved great success, being honored with the Best Cinematography award at the Mainichi Film Concours in 1950 for his exceptional work on the film Stray Dog.
