Biography

Bani Khoshnoudi, a multifaceted filmmaker and visual artist, was born in Tehran and made the courageous decision to immigrate to the United States in 1979 during the tumultuous revolution that shook the nation.

She pursued her passion for the arts by studying architecture, photography, and cinema at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by the prestigious Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program in New York, where she honed her skills over a period of ten years.

Khoshnoudi's creative works are deeply rooted in the themes of displacement, exile, and the effects of modernity on individuals and societies. Her films, including "The Silent Majority Speaks" (2010-2014),"Luciérnagas" (2018),"A People in the Shadows" (2008),and "Transit" (2005),delve into the complexities of global migrations, nomadisms, and historical struggles for freedom.

In addition to her cinematic endeavors, Khoshnoudi's photographs and installations explore the textures and traces of these stories, often incorporating elements of architecture, ruins, and human imprints on the earth.

Since 2009, Khoshnoudi has divided her time between Paris and Mexico City, where she continues to draw inspiration from her surroundings and refine her craft.

In 2022, her outstanding contributions to the arts were recognized with the prestigious Herb Alpert Award, a testament to her dedication and innovative spirit.
