Barbara Marten, born Barbara Mason on January 3rd, 1947, embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape her life and career. As a teenager, she attended the prestigious London School of Music and Dramatic Art, only to discover that it deterred her from pursuing acting. Instead, she spent two years teaching before rekindling her passion for the stage by joining a theatre group in Coventry and later a touring company based in Doncaster.
This company allowed her to travel throughout Yorkshire, performing contemporary plays that honed her craft. In 1997, Barbara's career took a significant turn when she joined the cast of the popular television series "Casualty," playing the role of the straight-talking nurse Eve Montgomery. She remained with the show for two years, solidifying her reputation as a talented actress.
Since her time on "Casualty," Barbara has appeared in numerous acclaimed dramas, including "Silent Witness," "The Bill," and "Waking the Dead." Her most recent notable role was in the period drama "The Mill," where she portrayed the real-life anti-slavery campaigner Hannah Greg.
Away from her acting career, Barbara is married to writer Mike Kenny and resides with him in Leeds. The couple has three sons, Billy, Josh, and Theo, whose name holds a special significance. Barbara suffered an illness three years prior to Theo's birth, leading her to believe she could no longer have children. Theo's name, which means "God's gift," is a testament to the couple's gratitude and faith.
