Barbara Kurzaj, a renowned Polish actress, graduated from the Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow in 1990. She then embarked on a journey to the United States, where she spent the next nine years honing her craft on various stages.
Her professional debut in the US was a significant milestone, as she took on the role of Anastasia in Matthew Ramsay's The Best Western in 1991. This marked the beginning of her association with the Bowman Ensable theatrical group in Baltimore, Maryland.
Kurzaj's talent and dedication earned her the first prize in the Theater Excellence Award competition organized by the Detroit Free Press in 1996. She won this prestigious award for her portrayal of Seta Tomasian in the play Beast on the Moon, which was staged by the Purple Rose Theater Co. and directed by Jeff Daniels. This accomplishment was followed by her appearance in the CBS soap opera Guiding Light, where she played the role of Mrs. Rogozinski in 1996.
After returning to Poland, Kurzaj continued to build a successful career in the entertainment industry. She appeared in a range of popular TV series and films, including Karol: A Man Who Became Pope (2004),Popieluszko: Freedom Is Within Us (2009),and Mother Teresa of Cats (2010).
In 2014, she starred in the documentary Danusia, which tells the story of the first successful Polish kidney transplantation. The following year, she took on the role of Marcin's teacher in the film Mother Teresa of Cats.
Kurzaj's impressive resume also includes performances in the Polish musical Wesele w kurnej chacie in 2016, as well as the title role in the film Smolensk, which is based on the true story of an investigative journalist who delves into the Smolensk air disaster.
